The 2018 Tour
Old lighthouses, stately homes, a picnic on the River Thames and a bespoke exhibition in a gorgeous new gallery in downtown Plymouth England. To say the least, Andrei’s 2018 tour in the UK was as always an exciting and adventurous trip. We had two exhibitions booked this year. One show was in one of our favorite galleries in Salisbury, Gallery 21 and the other was at the Host Gallery in Plymouth. We had a tight schedule and only a couple of days to catch up with the jet lag before our first trip to Salisbury for Andrei’s exhibition on October 7th, 2018.
Gallery 21: Salisbury, England
Andrei has a very strong following with Gallery 21’s collectors and they are very receptive to his work. Protsouk worked on his newest collection all year to be unveiled for the tour. He produced a total of 65 paintings for the show mixed with small panel originals and large breathtaking canvas originals including his new center piece for the show “Glowing in the Dark” that had a secret surprise waiting to be unveiled at the exhibitions; it has a subtle and powerful ability to glow in the dark.
On the Fourth of July this summer, Andrei had the pleasure of spending the night observing fireworks from a boat at a nearby lake. Although his head was not tilted up admiring the colorful explosions on the backdrop of constellations like everyone else. He was looking down at the ripples of the water and the wakes that would swirl all the colors and the reflections of the explosions above. Andrei was trying to recreate this romantic feeling and the overwhelming beauty of the reflections of fireworks with this piece. Consequently, he had also created an idea of a painting that could also be observed in the dark and can be experienced in a more unconventional way too.
When the show hit its peak and the delightful rare cheeses dwindled down with the Prosecco. The gallery manager switched off the lights to observe Andrei’s new piece. Silence was bestowed as everyone was in awe followed by an applause. No one, except a few of us, knew what to expect. The textures of Andrei’s piece were so ever glowing in a multitude of colors with the special permanent pigment he fused with his oil paints. He truly wanted to create an original painting and this was a great success that was received exceedingly well by his audience.
We had spent a delightful night in Salisbury and were blessed by sunny skies and a warm sunset that was interrupted by one of Europe's tallest spires on the Salisbury cathedral that could nearly be seen from any part of the quaint city. It truly is a remarkable architectural feat and is definitely worth seeing after visiting Gallery 21 and viewing Andrei’s work the next time you visit Salisbury. A special thanks to the amazing Gallery 21 team and the organizational prowess of the Buckingham Fine Arts team for putting on another memorable show.
Andrei’s Biographical Book
The following week was a crucial business week to discuss, plan and work on Andrei’s upcoming hardback biography. We have been diligently working on producing a comprehensive story of Andrei’s work. Compiling hundreds of ultra hi resolution photos of his work ranging from his childhood to his work at the Repin Academy of Art in St. Petersburg to the present day. We’ve organized the best collection of Andrei’s work from the last 40 plus years of his prolific career to share with his collectors and patrons. It will truly be a special collectors item and a necessary companion to his collections of work in homes around the world.
We will be publishing the book in England and in partnership with the exceptional team at Buckingham Fine Art Publishers in the coming months so please stay tuned. Our next European tour will be a book tour. If you haven’t yet, please sign up for our newsletter to receive updates and pre-order information in the coming months.
Host Gallery Show in Plymouth
From Smeaton’s Tower you could almost see the rock shelf where it once prominently stood as the world’s ‘first offshore rock lighthouse.’ Once a beacon for incoming ships and now an infamous landmark that guards the Plymouth skyline. The gail force winds swallowed the rocky shores of Plymouth and spilled into the main square of the city where Andrei’s first exhibition in southwest England to be hosted - at Host gallery. In retrospect it is kind of ironic that this was Andrei’s first show in Plymouth visiting from the United States when, conversely, Plymouth was the historic port that the Mayflower sailed to America for the first time nearly 400 years ago.
The Host Gallery is located across the street from the 12th Century St. Andrews Church in an old bank building. From inside the gallery you can view a nearly 180 degree view of the lively center square of downtown Plymouth. The first night on Friday, October 12th was a VIP preview of Andrei’s upcoming show which was scheduled to be on view at the gallery for two weeks. It was also an opportunity for southwest England’s premier collectors to meet Andrei and discuss his work. Prior to the evening opening, we were notified that some collectors had already reserved some of Andrei’s originals which made us excited for another successful exhibition.
The wind was howling outside as the weather forecast promised strong winds on the night of the exhibition. Because the city is so close to the Atlantic coast, the locals are more than seasoned for the weather especially considering that Autumn brings much rain and overcast to the region. The show had an exceptional turn out. Andrei was interviewed by the Plymouth Harold now called Plymouth Live on their website. Going through over a dozen bottles of Prosecco and selling more than half of Andrei’s collection we knew that the show was a huge success! Many thanks to the owner Neil and gallery general manager Trevor for their promotional efforts and inviting the great guests that turned out to the event! This was truly one of the best trips so far and most exciting exhibitions for Andrei and team! To see the full recap of the show please watch the video and subscribe to our YouTube Channel!
